Two Healthcare Leaders Honored by the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association

athenahealth, Inc. provides network-enabled software and services for medical groups and health systems nationwide. The company announced that the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) will celebrate two employees and healthcare leaders. The recipients are Allyson Livingstone, director of diversity and inclusion, and Nancy Abraham, executive director, customer success and operations technology. The HBA will proudly convene the industry’s most influential leaders to celebrate the work of Rising Stars and Luminaries and other prominent honorees at the 32nd annual Woman of the Year virtual event, on May 6, 2021.

Allyson and Nancy are proudly being recognized in the Rising Star and Luminary award categories, respectively.

Rising Star Award

HBA Rising Stars are professionals in the early stages of their careers. Rising Stars designated by HBA’s corporate partner organizations and represent various sectors of the healthcare industry. The honor recognizes healthcare leaders’ outstanding performance, commitment to excellence and contributions to their companies success. Rising Stars consists of inspirational role models to others. The award celebrates them for their vision dedication, and action.

Allyson Livingstone is the director of diversity and inclusion. She is a thought leader responsible for athenahealth’s diversity & inclusion (D&I) strategy. Allyson has enriched the ways that athenahealth builds talented, broadly diverse teams. This, in turn, fosters a powerful sense of inclusion that helps the company create best-in-class products and services. In 2020, she activated a D&I taskforce to promote an open dialogue on diversity issues. She works closely with the company’s corporate social responsibility program, athenaGives, to support athenahealth’s focus on closing gaps in healthcare equity. Allyson advises the employee resource groups (ERGs) at athenahealth. The ERG’s serve as a way for staff to participate in different employee-led inclusion initiatives.

Luminary Award:

HBA Luminaries are professionals with more than 20 years of professional industry experience. These healthcare leaders serve as role models in their company, actively mentoring and sponsoring others. Luminaries are a shining example of transformational leadership that the organization wants to formally recognize.

Nancy Abraham is the executive director of customer success and operations technology. Nominated as a Luminary in 2020, Nancy is an active member of the company’s women’s leadership forum (WLF) employee resource group. Nancy works to promote women’s empowerment and growth within athenahealth. She was a contributing member of the team that launched the WLF Mentor program. Nancy also participated as a mentor herself. In addition, Nancy served on the WLF steering committee, providing input on the strategic direction of the forum. Last year, as most employees began working remotely due to the pandemic, Nancy advised on successful work-from-home strategies to help others adjust to the new normal.

Celebrating their leaders

“Allyson and Nancy are both remarkable leaders within athenahealth, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements throughout their time with our organization,” said Fran Lawler, chief human resources officer, athenahealth. “This industry recognition supports their dedication not only to the company’s success, but also to employee development. We look forward to their continued growth and their ability to provide valuable mentorship to their colleagues and use their vision to drive further advancements in the industry.”

athenahealth remains committed to supporting diverse talent development and women in leadership roles. The company’s signing of the Parity Pledge, for instance, is focused on interviewing, hiring, and helping to advance women in corporate leadership; of the 15 executive roles recruited in 2020, 40% of those roles were filled by women. The Parity Pledge expanded to assist the advancement of people of color to corporate leadership roles. Both Allyson and Nancy’s tremendous work has allowed athenahealth to attract more diverse talents to build innovative products and services that can better address equity gaps in healthcare delivery and outcomes.

Other healthcare leaders at this year’s event will be:

  • HBA’s Woman of the Year Dr. Sandra Horning, formerly of Genentech-Roche
  • The Honorable Mentor Dr. Rod MacKenzie of Pfizer
  • The HBA’s STAR Susan Torroella of ArmadaHealth, in addition to Rising Stars and Luminaries
