When you look at Sam DeBianchi today, you see a young, successful and driven woman dominating the luxury real estate field. She is the first woman to star on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing and the founder and CEO of DeBianchi Real Estate. But Life wasn’t always this sweet; in fact, it was quite the opposite. Her childhood included a rare form of Cushing Disease that led to a brain tumor and drastically changed her appearance, extreme teasing and bullying throughout her teen years and many days feeling depressed and finding no answers. But now at age 31, she doesn’t have ill will or resent her early days, but sees them as a blessing in disguise.

“There’s no doubt my childhood was quite different than most and I would never wish what I had to go through on anyone,” DeBianchi said.  “But in a strange way, it made me stronger and I don’t know that I would be the person I am today had I not lived it.  My goal is to help others live life to the fullest now.”

Whether it’s succeeding in business or in life, Sam lives by:

  • Go big: If you’re going to invest all your time, money and energy into your passion, be it your business or some other calling, you either go at it one-hundred percent or you don’t do it at all.  There’s no, “I’m only going to give it a 70% effort” philosophy.  You either commit yourself or you don’t.  Full commitment is required for massive success. Don’t be the one in a million girl.  Be that once in a lifetime kind of woman.
  • Stop caring what other’s think: When I started growing my business and appeared on Million Dollar Listing, I was shocked how many unfriendly people and naysayers there were coming at me from so many different directions.  I made the decision early on that it didn’t matter what anyone else thought besides myself.  In business and in life, some people are going to love you for who you are, while others, no matter what you do, will never like you.  In the end, the only person’s opinion that matters is your own.  If it makes you happy, do it.  If it doesn’t, then don’t.
  • Embrace the failure: We’ve been taught to see failure as a negative event.  I don’t like to fail either, but I use it as a learning experience.  In fact, the more I fail the more I succeed.  Never stop failing and more importantly, never let the fear of failure stop you from going after your dreams. We rebuild better than we build.  That’s why setbacks and failures build so many millionaires.
  • Don’t be a quitter: So many times I watch many of my millennial colleagues just throw in the towel when they’re so close to breaking out.  Life’s tough.  Business is rough.  One saying I love is, “I didn’t come this far only to come this far.”  We all have those days when it feels like the world is against us, but never stop fighting.
  • Passion is everything: It’s not how good you are, but how good you want to be that counts.  I didn’t always know what I wanted to do with my life, but once I found my passion I never let go.  If you can’t stop thinking about it, don’t stop working for it.  What is the one thing you can’t see your life without?  What are you always obsessing about?  That’s your calling.  Stop thinking about it and run to it.
