Make Time for Personal Development At Lioness Networking [Event Recording]

If you had to guess, how much time do you think you spend on your personal development? It’s easy to let it slide – we’re all juggling so much already. But as female entrepreneurs, staying at the top of our game requires constant growth. At our most recent round of Lioness Networking, attendees shared their best tips on learning and development. Here’s a rundown of what we learned – use this to make every minute count.

Carve out time for learning

All good research hinges on data, so we started off with a poll: Do you make time for your own learning and development? Yeses all around! That’s a good mindset to have; the challenge, of course, comes from finding that time.

Your schedule probably isn’t going to open up anytime soon, so you’ll need to find ways to squeeze in learning time. Many of our attendees rely on time blocking or calendar blocking – setting aside small, manageable chunks each day for personal development. So, rather than aimlessly hoping to find more time to read, you’d regularly schedule it into your calendar. If you still commute, listen to a podcast or interview, read 15 pages of that new bestseller before bed, or dedicate 10 minutes of your lunch break to an online course. You’ll need to make it a priority and stick with it, just like any other appointment on your calendar.

Stay focused

It’s tempting to sign up for every webinar, buy every business book, and fill your schedule with conferences. But successful learning is intentional. Start by thinking about your specific goals, and ask yourself: What will I gain from this? Be clear on what you want to achieve. It’s way too easy to get caught up in the latest trendy platform.

Tools to keep you on track:

  • Notion – Organize notes and manage information
  • OpusClip – Create short, shareable clips from longer video content
  • Loom – Record your screen, edit, and share the video
  • Word Cloud – Visualize which words are used most often in a given text
  • Google Keep – Note-taking and organization
  • AI tools like ChatGPT – Plenty of applications, such as analyzing trending topics or generating ideas

Become a lifelong learner in 5 steps:

  • Set aside learning time, whether it’s 30 minutes a day or an hour a week. Put it in your calendar and make it non-negotiable.
  • Know your goals. Be selective – focus on what aligns with your growth.
  • Use the right tools. There’s no shortage of apps and platforms to keep you organized. Find what works best for you.
  • Learn from others, and surround yourself with people who inspire you, whether through communities, mentors, or peers. Listen to what they’re saying, and check out what they recommend.
  • Diversify your learning. Keep it interesting! Mix up the format with podcasts, books, webinars, or workshops.

With the right approach, you can make personal development a natural part of your routine – and a powerful tool in your entrepreneurial journey.
