Jessica Simpson’s $1 Billion Business Turns 10 Years Old

This month her company the Jessica Simpson Collection is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and pulling in approximately $1 billion per year in retail.

Jessica Simpson's $1 Billion Business Turns 10 Years Old - Lioness MagazineYou rarely see her flossing at red carpet events, presenting at award shows or plastered on the pages of gossip rags. For the most part, Jessica Simpson manages to fly under the radar these days unless she’s doing product promotions. In a “look at me” world where many celebs who fade from the spotlight return to claim a glimmer of their former shine via reality TV, we have yet to see Simpson, one of reality TV’s early superstars, make an attempt to do so.

Instead, Simpson has been raising a family with her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson. She juggles being a wife and mother to two children with overseeing an amassing empire. This month her company the Jessica Simpson Collection is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and pulling in approximately $1 billion per year in retail. The collection carries items in 30 categories including footwear, outerwear, sunglasses, optical frames, handbags and handbag accessories, swimwear, perfume and more.

She came on the scene in the late 90s during a time when young blonde women seemed to rule the pop music charts. Her then relationship with boy bander Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees played out for all to see, especially when the early years of their subsequent and marriage became the hit MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. Her jovial demeanor and “air head” comments made her the butt of late night television monologues.

But as the Inquisitr noted, “How much of the ‘dumb blonde’ bit was just an act, or was played up in the editing room, is a matter of debate, but one thing is clear: Jessica Simpson is no dummy.”

She began to seek projects outside of music with movie and TV appearances, but it seems where Simpson began to excel was retail. She started in clothing and quickly began to expand her offerings.

Simpson told WWD at her 10th anniversary celebration in New York, “No, it doesn’t really feel real, but I am in a place where I’m just like trying to take it all in. The billboards and 10 years makes me feel a little bit old, but I definitely feel successful at the same time, so that’s good.”

She also dropped a new limited edition fragrance to go along with the celebration, Jessica Simpson Ten. For more on the perfume and to see what she has to say about the milestone, check out InStyle.
