Book of the Week – Activate Your Money

Educate yourself about finance and socially conscious investing with a woman-centered approach.

Historically, there’s a wide gap in how many women feel comfortable investing their money as compared to men. That division only grows when you consider socially responsible investing. You might think that value-based portfolios are reserved for the uber-rich elite—and usually men. Janine Firpo, Co-Founder of Invest for Better, wants to buck that trend. In her book “Activate Your Money: Invest to Grow Your Wealth and Build a Better World,” she teaches women how to step confidently into the world of investing.

What is your book about?

For several decades, discussions of values-informed investing have been confined to bastions of high-net-worth individuals, institutional investors, foundations and specialized financial advisors. However, many people of ordinary means seek to become a part of that conversation. They want to invest their money using environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies. In Activate Your Money, expert investor and author Janine Firpo delivers the foundational support that women need to talk to one another about their money and investments. The book demonstrates the actions required to shift your assets into alignment with your values.

You’ll discover a depth of information perfect for making informed investment decisions across your entire portfolio. This starts with your checking and savings accounts. The accomplished author offers information step-by-step and asset class by asset class. It provides core investment knowledge and concrete examples you’ll need to know how and where you can invest your money ethically. The book demystifies financial lingo and the investment strategies you’ll need to build a diversified portfolio.

Topics include:

  1. Step up your relationship with money and recognize the power you have to change the world through your investment decisions
  2. Demystify financial lingo, learn investment strategies and acquire tools to help you grow your wealth
  3. Explore values-aligned investment options, asset class by asset class and make informed decisions about where to put your money
  4. Break the taboo on discussing money with partners, advisors, friends and daughters

Why should people read it? Who is the book for?

The book is for smart, savvy women who want to feel financially empowered. Activate Your Money will also earn a place in the libraries of financial planners and professional investors who wish to better understand some of their female clients who worry about more than the bottom line.

Single most important takeaway:

“I don’t have to give up my values or my return—and neither should you.”
