The members of the Massachusetts Equal Pay Coalition, congratulate lawmakers and thank Governor Baker, who plans to sign pay equity legislation into law today Monday, August 1.
An Act to Establish Pay Equity seeks to help end the gender wage gap in the Commonwealth by providing a more comprehensive definition for comparable work, allowing employees to discuss what they earn without threat of retaliation from employers, and by eliminating the practice of requiring salary history on job applications before a job offer is made. The legislation will take effectJuly 1, 2018.

“We’re proud that business leaders and advocates were able to find common ground in order to move this important measure forward,” Elizabeth Barajas-Román, CEO of the Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts said. “It’s also exciting to celebrate with our sister Women’s Funds and coalition partners. Together, we are an unstoppable force.”
Dawn Leaks, CEO of Lioness, the premiere resource for female entrepreneurs which is headquartered in Massachusetts said she was thrilled to see Massachusetts leading the way. “It’s a wonderful time to be a woman in business and it’s also long overdue that we are properly compensated for the skills and expertise that we bring to the table.
