Pop star Rihanna sent Twitter a fire by calling N.A.A.C.P. Chapter Leader Rachel Dolezal in the November 2015 issue of Vanity Fair “a bit of a hero.” Telling the magazine, “I think she was a bit of a hero, because she kind of flipped on society a little bit … Is it such a horrible thing that she pretended to be black? Black is a great thing, and I think she legit changed people’s perspective a bit and woke people up.”
Dolezal made national headlines when she was “outed” as a white woman passing for black. She later resigned from her chapter post but continued to state in a variety of interviews that she identifies as black.
Twitter has been reacting to Rihanna’s comment:
Damn it doesn’t matter how many times I read it. I am still shocked. Where are her PR people #RachelDolezal #rihanna https://t.co/x0TtmsoTIw

@TwitchyTeam the state of affairs in this country now is such that being a fraud makes you a hero. #RachelDolezal
