How This Toddler Became The Impetus For Her Mother’s Greeting Card Startup, LiziCards

BOSTON — Gyongyi Dalnoki is reinventing greeting cards with voice-recording and personal photos thanks to the birth of her daughter, the inspiration for LiziCards.

BOSTON — Greeting cards have been taken to a new technological level with the recent invention of LiziCards. This creation allows customers to add a voice-recording and personal photos to greeting cards for a more personal exchange.

Named after founder Gyongyi Dalnoki’s two-year-old daughter Lizi, the inspiration came from her birth. Dalnoki relocated to the U.S. from Hungary and after giving birth to Lizi wanted a way to communicate with her family back home that was more personable than a basic greeting card.

“Soon after Lizi’s birth, I wanted to send a special Christmas card to my parents back in Hungary. I did a lot of research and found the available options very limited and really poor quality,” Dalnoki said. “More importantly, no one provided the option of recording a personalized voice message. Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to make it myself. I included photos of Lizi in the card and recorded her sweet voice cooing and babbling which played when you opened the card,” she added.

Dalnoki’s family was thrilled with the card and had a more positive response than she could have ever imagined.

“That’s when I had the idea to turn my project into a startup. I wanted to give others the chance to send special messages to friends and loved ones that would be as well received as the card I sent my parents,” Dalnoki said.

The technology works by allowing customers to log in and select a unique greeting card design and then upload both voice-recordings and personal photos directly through the online store or the mobile app.

LiziCards is currently available for download in the Apple Store or online at LiziCards.com, and can be found on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest at @LiziCards.

LiziCards are all created in their Boston office and are mailed directly to the designated recipient or the user usually within 24 hours of the order being placed.

“Despite the custom-nature of each card, we also aim to have a very quick turnaround time between when a customer places their order and when it is delivered to the recipient and aim to have the cards assembled and shipped within 24 hours of the order being placed” Dalnoki said.

The company launched in November 2017 with the help of a small seed investment round. LiziCards launched with a variety of greeting cards for different occasions. The company plans to expand, adding new cards to the store over the coming months. There will also be a new feature added where customers can share the experience of receiving the cards on their social media. Currently, the store is focused on their available app and online store, which they are happy with.
