Marking the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, FYI is teaming up with affordable housing non-profit, Make It Right (founded by Brad Pitt), to build a sustainable and innovative new tiny home in New Orleans, LA for a local middle school teacher.

In support of rebuilding the city of New Orleans, FYI, a leader in the tiny home movement with its hit television series, “Tiny House Nation,” and Make It Right have joined together to build a solar-powered, LEED Platinum certified, 496 square foot tiny house in the Lower 9th Ward. Wayfair, one of the world’s largest online destinations for home décor, will be furnishing the new home.

“FYI is proud to be partnering with the city of New Orleans, Make it Right and Wayfair in celebration of the continued resilience and rebuilding of the area,” said Jana Bennett, president of FYI and LMN. “To be able to present a new home to a local recipient, during the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, is a powerful way for FYI to give back to such a deserving community.”

To celebrate the teacher’s new home and relocation back to New Orleans, FYI and Make It Right will host a “Tiny House-Warming” on Friday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. CT at 1732 Forstall Street. Following a brief ceremony, guests will be welcomed to tour the tiny home. FYI’s “Tiny House Nation” expert and host, John Weisbarth, will be in attendance.

“We are thrilled to be working with FYI and ‘Tiny House Nation’ on our 109th home in New Orleans,” said Make It Right’s Jordan Pollard, a New Orleans native and designer of the tiny home. “We share their commitment to craftsmanship, design and helping homeowners reduce their environmental footprint. And, we’re even happier to help another homeowner return to the Lower 9th Ward on the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.”

In addition, on August 29, FYI will serve as a partner of the city of New Orleans’ Katrina 10 initiative, supporting its “Call for Volunteers” with a tiny home as a recharge hub for volunteers, staff and media. The hub will provide a charging station, free Wi-Fi and refreshments for Katrina 10 events and activities. Katrina 10 is an initiative to celebrate the ten years of resilience and rebuilding that took place after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city.
