Continuing to break the tradeshow mold with innovative exhibitions and 250+ inspiring speakers
After a record-breaking show in 2014, Dwell on Design LA returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center for its 10th annual show May 29-31. From humble beginnings in San Francisco, Dwell on Design has grown to be the largest design event in the country, hitting record attendance numbers of 31,000+ and expanding to New York in 2014. This year’s event will feature three full days of onstage programming from more than 250 leaders in design, 2,000 modern furnishings and products from 400 exhibitors, and continuing education opportunities that span nearly every design discipline. From the largest Dwell Outdoor to date, covering 28,000 square feet, to the Modern Family Pavilion, where budding young designers can explore the latest in kid-friendly furnishings, an opening-day reception, and the Fort Peck – Make It Right and Monogram Modern Home prefabs, both by Method Homes, there’s no shortage of spaces and products to explore on the show floor.
The growth of Dwell on Design over the past 10 years has mirrored the expansion of Dwell’s offerings to its clients and readers—now 11 platforms strong. It is representative of the vision of Dwell CEO and President Michela O’Connor Abrams, who knew Dwell on Design was a show meant for the Los Angeles Convention Center and one that would propel Dwell forward when she first dreamt up the concept in the mid-2000s. “Dwell on Design embodies the magazine in its truest sense,” Dwell Editor-in-Chief Amanda Dameron said. “Through the innovation and creativity of our speakers, exhibitors and partners, we are able to explore the modern world in a live context. We are all thrilled to be celebrating ten years of creating an incredible show, and each year we are all driven by Michela O’Connor Abrams’ vision for what a design conference can and should be.”
Keynote Speaker Marcel Wanders—Dwell is pleased to announce that Dutch Designer Marcel Wanders will kick off the 10th annual Dwell on Design on Friday, May 29 as the keynote speaker. A visionary thinker and designer, Wanders often speaks to the importance of open-mindedness—charging the industry with the responsibility of bringing humanity to their work. Wanders’ goal to “create an environment of love, live with passion and make our most exciting dreams come true,” embodies a desire to connect, communicate and push boundaries that aligns with Dwell on Design’s unconventional approach to the traditional design show. Since gaining international acclaim for his Knotted Chair in 1996, Marcel has been the creative mind behind more than 1,700 products for brands that include Alessi, KLM, Flos and design label Moooi, which he co-founded in 2001. Onstage at Dwell on Design he will share glimpses of his creative process through the trajectory of his decades-long career.
