Empowering Change During Grief: Dr. Katie Eastman

There’s no roadmap for managing sudden grief and change—but Dr. Katie Eastman has spent over 35 years helping people chart their course. She knows that struggle and adversity don’t have to mean stagnation; they can be the spark for something incredible. Today, Dr. Eastman shows us how we can learn from our losses, make conscious change and grow into the best versions of ourselves.

Introduce yourself!

I’m Dr. Katie Eastman, a licensed psychotherapist, master grief coach and organizational change consultant with over 35 years of experience. My mission is to help individuals and organizations transform loss and change into opportunities for growth and purpose. Whether it’s navigating personal grief, life transitions or professional challenges, I provide compassionate guidance and practical tools that empower people to move forward with clarity and resilience.

Through my business, I offer coaching, consulting, speaking and training programs tailored to help people thrive in the face of adversity. Using my proven Re-Create Model and insights from decades of experience, I help leaders build compassionate cultures, guide teams through change and support individuals in finding meaning and purpose during life’s most challenging transitions.

What inspired you to start your business?

I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, the pioneer behind the five stages of grief. Her approach to life, which emphasizes drawing lessons from our losses to guide value-based choices, deeply inspired me. This philosophy fuels my passion for supporting individuals of all ages in transforming their losses—of any kind—into opportunities for growth, enabling them to live more meaningful and purposeful lives.

Who’s a female entrepreneur that inspires you?

Elizabeth Hamilton-Guarino, the founder of Best Ever You, is a dynamic force whose energy and passion are matched only by her compassionate approach to life. Her business has flourished, her books are bestsellers, and she remains as dedicated to her mission of helping others become their best selves as she was when she founded her company over a decade ago. I deeply admire her tenacity, integrity and unmatched creativity.

What’s a business myth you’d love to bust?

“If you work hard enough, you will succeed!”—a common mantra. But the truth is, success isn’t just about working harder; it’s about working smarter. I wish more people understood that effectiveness and efficiency are not the same. You can be efficient without being effective. I learned this lesson the hard way. This myth is especially challenging for “passionaries” like myself—those of us driven by our mission. We often work tirelessly, fueled by passion, yet sometimes fail to see the return on our investment. It’s a tough but valuable reality to navigate.

Describe your company in three words.

Loss. Change. Growth.

What’s your proudest business milestone so far?

I’m most proud of my book, “Uplifting: Inspiring Stories of Loss, Change and Growth,” published in March 2024.

Meet last week’s featured member, Elizabeth Munoz, and how she guides others to well-being.
