Prenups Were Once Taboo. HelloPrenup Made Them Trend.

When we first introduced readers to Julia Rodgers and her company HelloPrenup in 2021, she and co-founder Sarabeth Jaffe had just appeared on Shark Tank—wedding dresses on, business pitch in hand, ready to reframe the way couples think about prenuptial agreements. Even then, HelloPrenup was reworking a process many couples avoided because of cost, fear or stigma.

Since their Shark Tank debut, HelloPrenup expanded its reach, introduced new features and became a name to know in legal tech.

What HelloPrenup offers

HelloPrenup is the first digital platform designed to help couples create affordable and legally sound prenuptial agreements in just a few hours. At $599, it’s a fraction of the $5,000 or more that a traditional lawyer-driven process can cost.

The company’s key philosophy is that financial planning strengthens relationships. By reducing the fear often associated with money discussions, HelloPrenup helps couples start their future with confidence.

“When you get in a car, you put on your seatbelt. It’s not because you plan to get in an accident,” said Rodgers.

The growth: from startup to market leader

Since our last interview, HelloPrenup grew from a promising startup into a leading force in the prenuptial agreement industry. According to Rodgers, HelloPrenup has supported over 100,000 engaged couples, safeguarded more than $25 billion in assets and secured approximately 20 percent of the U.S. prenuptial agreement market. Couples from all walks of life, from teachers to small business owners, use HelloPrenup to protect their assets and plan together.

Rodgers points out that interest in prenuptial agreements has surged among Millennials and Gen Z. According to a recent Harris Poll, 47 percent of engaged or married Millennials and 41 percent of Gen Z-ers say they’ve entered into a prenup.

A strategic investment shaping the future

HelloPrenup recently secured a significant strategic investment from The Legal Tech Fund, a move that will help the company expand nationwide and into international markets. The funding will also boost its AI-driven contract tools, making the process faster and more streamlined for couples.

“This funding enables us to expand our capabilities while staying true to our mission,” Rodgers says. She adds that it will give couples access to smarter tools to safeguard their futures more quickly.

Partnerships powering impact

HelloPrenup’s growth has also been fueled by strategic partnerships. Working with Ellevest, the women-focused investing and financial literacy platform, added financial disclosure and scenario-based planning tools that help couples feel more confident about prenups. Other partnerships, such as with Zola and various counseling services, help couples focus on their marriage as a whole, not just the paperwork.

These partnerships give HelloPrenup users a stronger foundation, pairing practical tools with educational resources to help couples prepare for marriage in a more holistic way.

On being a woman founder in tech and legal spaces

Rodgers is open about the challenges of raising funding as a woman founder. Even with strong numbers and a solid track record, she admits that securing funding can still be tough for her and for many other women in business.

Her advice is simple: keep going. Keep pitching, stay confident in your mission and look for investors who believe in both your business and you as a founder. For Rodgers, one of the keys to HelloPrenup’s success has been building a team she loves working with. She encourages other women founders to find people who share their values and commitment.

What’s next for HelloPrenup

Looking ahead, HelloPrenup plans to keep prenups approachable while expanding into new products that support couples through different life and relationship stages

At its heart, HelloPrenup aims to make preparing for the future a way to strengthen a couple’s bond, not a source of stress. The goal is to make financial planning an empowering and easy part of building a life together.

A Lioness in action

Through HelloPrenup, Rodgers has helped push prenups from a taboo topic into everyday conversation. Back in 2021, she set out to make the process more accessible and less intimidating. Today, with nationwide reach and new tools on the horizon, that vision is becoming reality.

“I don’t think preparing for the future has to feel cold or transactional,” Rodgers said. “It can be one of the most meaningful things you do as a couple — because it means you’re being honest, you’re being thoughtful and you’re planning for a life together.”
