Sarah Lucas, cofounder of WAHspace, has decided to step down from her position as CEO of the company. “While I enjoyed the past two years building WAHspace from an idea to a viable business model, my personal passion lies in the social entrepreneurship arena and I will be putting my skills to work in local nonprofit organizations,” Lucas said.
Based in Boca Raton, Fla. at the FAU Tech Runway Business Accelerator, WAHspace connects and credentials individuals and companies seeking remote employment opportunities. A two-year-old startup with nearly 13,000 individual users and a total of 16 companies currently WAH-certified, including TALK2REP and Arise Virtual Solutions, the platform has filled a void in the social-networking services geared toward employment for the nontraditional worker.
Lucas, a Harvard graduate and a former employee of the White House, worked in various policy, strategy and commutations areas, including a position as a domestic policy advisor to President Clinton. As a woman in a seemingly male dominated arena, Lucas said, “I consider myself fortunate to have spent my career surrounded by strong professional women who supported me.”
She continued,“I was driven by the sense of higher purpose, and a desire to create change in the world by interrupting the status quo.” She further explained that the need to develop WAHspace arose when “our main founder and advisor discovered in one of his own entrepreneurial endeavors the challenge of connecting with, screening, and onboarding at-home-workers in a cost efficient manner. I was recruited to spearhead the idea from a business concept to a proven business model.”
Lucas will remain an active advisory and equity stakeholder in the company. WAHspace is continuing its search for a new CEO and is expected to make an announcement within the next few weeks.
