It can be embarrassing to feel the need to get a STI test, but it is definitely an important part of wellness for those who are sexually active. That’s why Cofounders Lora Ivanova and Ursula Hessenflow created myLAB Box, a discreet, nationwide STI test service conveniently delivered to your doorstep.
“myLAB Box was created in large part due to the unstable health climate in the U.S. and what we saw as the need for alternatives to payer-based health systems. By selling direct-to-consumers we are able to offer exceptional service at half the cost of conventional lab tests,” Ivanova said.
The tests included in myLAB Box have the same diagnostic accuracy as testing in a laboratory or a doctor’s office. All kits also use FDA approved technology and are validated by fully licensed CLIA certified myLAB Box affiliates with decades in testing for infectious disease.
Something that originally started out as a girls’ night quickly turned into this idea. “The inspiration for myLAB Box came one day when we were getting together for a drink and started talking about our bad dates and things we wished we had the power to change about the world. It was one of those things where we’re just two friends talking about something and then we start brainstorming ideas, like how great would it be if somebody did that,” said Ivanova.
Hessenflow added, “We started talking about how awkward it is to have these types of conversations around sexual health with partners and wondered why that was the case. Soon afterwards, we started working on a business plan and the rest is history.”
The product offers affordable screening to complimentary physician consultations for those with positive test results. It is all designed to be user-friendly.
With the goal of transforming the way that individuals think and take care of our health, the owners of myLAB Box are really looking forward to the future.
“As myLAB Box continues to gain awareness in the marketplace over this next year, our goal is to transform STD testing from something that has been traditionally taboo, inconvenient and awkward into basic hassle-free personal hygiene, as simple as brushing your teeth,” Hessenflow said.
With mostly positive support for the idea, the two women co-founders are determined to make a difference.
myLAB kits range from $79 for a single test to $399 for a 13-panel screen.
