WASHINGTON D.C. — DC Startup Week kicked off on Sept. 8 with Young Entrepreneurship Day hosted by The Gemz.
Young founders and inspiring entrepreneurs between ages 10-19 were invited to gather for a half-day of educational panels, workshops, a marketplace/expo and a pitch competition to learn, grow and empower one another.
Pitch competition winner Coiley Girl Detanglers won $500 at the event courtesy of The Gemz.
A nonprofit organization in the Washington D.C. metro area, The Gemz educates and empowers middle and high school-aged girls with life and leadership skills through programs that develop healthy self-esteem, leadership skills and youth entrepreneurship.
DC Startup Week Continues
DC Startup Week runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 13. It’s touted as the fastest-growing startup community in the DMV region with more than 6,000 entrepreneurs. Once a year, the event brings together an expansive entrepreneur community for 5 days of connecting, collaborating, resource sharing and celebration of the thriving ecosystem.
There will be five jam-packed days crammed with panels, workshops, pitches and networking opportunities at a number of venues including American University Center for Innovation, Booz Allen Hamilton Innovation Center, Google DC and WeWork.
Speakers include Seema Alexander, Lexden Capital; Jacqueline M. Baker, AARP Innovation Labs; Melissa L. Bradley, Sidecar Social Finance; Sarah Chen, The Billion Dollar Fund For Women; Kate Glantz, Lyft and more.
