Qakestry Catering Founder Quianna Thompson (far right) and her team.

Quianna Thompson has been in the catering business for two years. As the woman behind Qakestry Catering based in Cincinnati, Ohio, she said food is what she knows. “This is how I was raised, its what I know. It’s my lifestyle. This is what happens when we get together. We talk, we eat, and we have a great time,” Thompson said.

Her motto is dissolve excuses, develop results. She said Qakestry is unique because they are a family first and they bring that sense of family with them to every occasion and every event. “We always make sure everyone is having a great time. We bring music, good food and good people, of course. We like to bring a little flair, too, so we are always fashionable,” said Thompson.

While she knows she could have worked for anyone, she believes owning her own business is the best option for her. Thompson finds the work rewarding and the most satisfying thing she’s done thus far.

“I love food, I love fun, and I honestly love being around great people. So I think because of my love of the Qakestry experience. It doesn’t feel like business,” Thompson said.

She’s a strong believer in having a vision and she adores Robbie Montgomery. If she could steal mojo from another mogul it would be, “Ms. Sweetie Pie herself. Ms. Robbie Montgomery, of course. I would love to meet Ms. Robbie. I just think she’s awesome.”

Here’s what she had to say when it came to our Lioness Q&A:

Lioness: If you could give other entrepreneurs three tips, what would they be?

Thompson: Tips … Well, one for sure would be to just go for it! I had the idea about starting my own company for a while but nothing ever happened until I actually went for it. The second thing I would say is to hang in there. Everyday won’t be easy but you have to stick with it and keep going. Last but not least, make sure you don’t let the naysayers get underneath your skin. Not everyone is as positive as you may need him or her to be or would like him or her to be.

Lioness: Has there been a piece of technology or software that has been a lifesaver to you?

Thompson: Omg! I cannot live without my iphone and ipad. I send so many emails and I have my website officially launching soon and when I tell you I need my devices … I NEED them. Coffee is nice too.

Lioness: What is your goal for the next year?

Thompson: My goals are to simply grow.

Lioness: When someone is telling their friend about your business, what do you hope they say?

Thompson: I would hope they say, ‘It’s not just a catering company. It’s an experience.’
