CNN’s Kelly Wallace To Emcee Digital Citizenship Summit Launch Event For U.S. Media Literacy Week - Lioness MagazineOn Oct. 28, Twitter will host the Digital Citizenship Summit launch event for U.S. Media Literacy Week at their San Francisco headquarters.  The Digital Citizenship Summit, a major gathering of organizations, educators, industry, parenting experts, students, and more, brings together a diverse range of leaders to promote the safe, savvy, and ethical use of social media & tech. The event aims to work towards solutions, promote best practices, and empower citizens to “be the digital change.”

The Digital Citizenship Summit on Oct. 28 is an all-day event that features a diverse range of speakers and panelists from across the country and globe. Speakers include Jim Steyer, Tiffany Shlain, Larry Magid, Jason Ohler, Diana Graber, Nick Provenzano, Kayla Delzer, and Michelle Drouin. Also featured will be Jocelyn Brewer (Australia), Chris Flack (Ireland), Amitabh Kumar (India), Fred Sagwe (Kenya), Maria Zabala (Spain), and Joanne Sweeney-Burke & Sophie Burke (Ireland). The fast-paced event will be emceed by CNN’s Kelly Wallace, an award-winning digital journalist and television correspondent. Wallace is a digital correspondent and editor-at-large for CNN, focusing on family, career and work/life balance. Wallace writes in-depth articles and socially sourced stories and does original web videos for CNN Digital Health, Wellness and Parenting section.

The Digital Citizenship Summit can be attended in-person or virtually. A limited amount of free tickets for the physical event are available starting September 1st through the Digital Citizenship Summit website. The virtual tickets, also free, include a livestream of the event from Twitter headquarters, exclusive online interviews, and partner resources. Both physical and virtual attendee will also receive a digital citizenship white paper being released on Oct. 28. The white paper is a collaboration between the recently-launched Digital Citizenship Institute and Impero Software.

The Digital Citizenship Summit take a multi-stakeholder participatory approach to solving some of the complicated issues regarding social media and tech use, such as improving online civility, promoting media literacy, and empowering students to be engaged digital citizens. The themes for the October 28th event are Citizenship, Literacy, and Advocacy.

Planning partners include the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), Common Sense Media, Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), #iCANHELP, ConnectSafely, iKeepSafe, and Trend Micro’s Internet Safety for Kids & Families. Other partners for the Digital Citizenship Summit include NetSmartz and CyberWise.
